2019

The following paper documents the use of political artistic performances as an instrument to strengthen the links between democracy and education. This study has been carried out with 45 students enrolled in the course of Didactics of Physical Expressive Activities of the Primary Education Teacher's Degree. To document the proposal we have followed a qualitative methodology. The results show how artistic performances contribute to the process of political subjectivation of future teachers insofar as they are able to use educational institutions to claim a more plural idea of corporality. In this process, political performances are presented as an excellent teaching resource because they all…

Zoom in on Dry Joy—Dissensus, Agonism and Democracy in Art Education

2021

Literature on art education often emphasizes dialogue as a preferred approach and as a way of practicing democratic education in museums and galleries. Dialogue-based tours in such contexts are often characterized by a sense of harmony and agreement. In contrast, this article discusses the democratic aspect and political potentiality when dissensus and agonism are used as central educational strategies. The point of departure for the discussion was a teaching session on the online platform Zoom with student teachers as part of their module on art and crafts at the University of Agder in Kristiansand, Norway, in spring 2020. Artworks from the exhibition Dry Joy, in S&oslash

Democratic Education and Promotion of Social Skills in Schools and Classrooms as Primary Prevention: An Overview of the Discourse in Germany

2012

Because of its strong impact as a social environment, school represents one of the primary focal points of students’ lives and therefore also functions as a powerful agent of socialization during adolescence. Thus the school is a significant object of study not only as a crime scene, but also as a factor in facilitating or deterring violence.

La deduzione personalistica della democrazia nella pedagogia di Luigi Stefanini

2021

Through a historical reading of the Luigi Stefanini’s philosophy (Treviso 1891 - Padua 1956), this paper presents the democratic theory of education that he elaborates in the years of the Reconstruction. Stefanini proposes a personalistic deduction of democracy, where the educational act becomes a place of event of the social person. Education for democracy coincides with a path of spiritual growth that causes the person in the individual and that has a mystical foundation: first the ego experiences itself and then meets others as similar but singular subjects. In this educational process the teacher is very important, because he acts as an intermediary between the disciple and the absolute…

Democracy in complex networks:political leaders and administrative professionals

2015

The core assumption in this chapter is that political actors and civil servants on the municipal level share in the common societal responsibility for the education and upbringing of the next generation. Using a filter of five core public-governance logics in the analysis of our data – the marketplace logic, the managerial, the public, the professional and the ethical –we find both similarities and differences between politicians and civil servants. We analyse how politicians and administrators are positioned in the system and how they develop their commitment to, and their competencies to take part in furthering, both a democratic education and an efficient and effective governance system,…
